Are Full Attacks and five foot steps a GOOD thing?

I kind of dug Warhammer 3rd's init system:
Everyone rolls for init, and NPCs are broken down into "groups". Init counts can be used by any member of that group.
So two PCs and 2 bugbears have an init count of:
Bugbears:12
PCs: 11
Bugbears: 8
PCs: 6
At that point, the bugbears act in whatever order, but the PCs get to decide who goes on 11 and who goes on 6. That way you don't *always* get someone stuck as tail end charlie even if they could severely benefit from going before the second bugbear.

I use that rule. From reading other boards it seems like a common house rule. I've never heard any complaints.OgreBattle wrote:If Full Attacks were removed and simply a part of standard action attacks, would that greatly imbalance D&D3.X?
You could probably get an argument going over whether it should apply to charge or natural attack routines though.

Do you use minis and a battlemat ?ModelCitizen wrote:I use that rule.OgreBattle wrote:If Full Attacks were removed and simply a part of standard action attacks, would that greatly imbalance D&D3.X?
"But transportation issues are social-justice issues. The toll of bad transit policies and worse infrastructure—trains and buses that don’t run well and badly serve low-income neighborhoods, vehicular traffic that pollutes the environment and endangers the lives of cyclists and pedestrians—is borne disproportionately by black and brown communities."

I ask because 3e D&D is a fundamentally different game with or without minis and a tactical grid, and knowing which one is relevant to evaluating how your play experience in using full attacks as standard attacks might work out for other people.ModelCitizen wrote:I use a battlemat about half the time. If the fight is simple enough that we can keep track of stuff in our heads, I don't. Why?Josh_Kablack wrote: Do you use minis and a battlemat ?

Gotcha. I use the full movement rules. AoOs for moving, 5' steps, reach, flanking, the whole bit. For what you're talking about assume I use a grid all the time (even though the grid is frequently in my head and slightly error-prone).Josh_Kablack wrote: I ask because 3e D&D is a fundamentally different game with or without minis and a tactical grid, and knowing which one is relevant to evaluating how your play experience in using full attacks as standard attacks might work out for other people.

Sounds like someone never actually read the content they're talking about. You probably need a refresher course on Races of War.OgreBattle wrote:Despite it being acknowledged as a problem, I thought it was odd that the Tome series didn't change the base mechanics of Full Attack
